bullet Overheated Clothes Dryers Can Cause Fires   The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission estimates that in 1998, clothes dryers were associated with 15,600 fires, which resulted in 20 deaths and 370 injuries. Fires can occur when lint builds up in the dryer or in the exhaust duct. Lint can block the flow of air, cause excessive heat build-up, and result in a fire in some dryers.
bullet Chimneys: Safety Alert   Consumer Product Safety Commission is issuing a special safety alert concerning chimneys used with wood burning stoves, fireplaces, and fireplace inserts. bullet CPSC Warns Of Hazards from Heaters and Fireplaces The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) reminds consumers to follow safety precautions when purchasing and using electric or fuel-fired heaters and fireplaces. “Most of the deaths and injuries from heaters and fireplaces happen in the winter months,” said CPSC Chairman Hal Stratton. “Every home needs working smoke alarms and a carbon monoxide alarm.”

bullet Carbon monoxide Carbon monoxide is an odorless, colorless and toxic gas. Because it is impossible to see, taste or smell the toxic fumes, CO can kill you before you are aware it is in your home. At lower levels of exposure, CO causes mild effects that are often mistaken for the flu. These symptoms include headaches, dizziness, disorientation, nausea and fatigue. The effects of CO exposure can vary greatly from person to person depending on age, overall health and the concentration and length of exposure.

Welcome to New Jersey's Source for  EIFS  Exterior Insulating and Finish System is a synthetic building cladding material introduced to New Jersey in the early 1980s. It was designed to mimic the look of real stucco, yet be easier and cheaper for homebuilders to install. Unfortunately, EIFS has also brought with it a host of shortcomings, notably drainage and moisture intrusion problems on wood-frame residential construction that began to emerge in 1995. As these barrier systems began to fail, many families discovered extensive rotting around windows, doors and other external frame penetrations. Worse, others found substantial internal frame rotting and damage to their homes. Still others reported pest infestation and even extensive mold growth. That situation would be bad enough if it were a surprise. But, it wasn't.

APA's FreeFromMold.org  APA – The Engineered Wood Association launched the FreeFromMold.org program in August 2004 to provide an annual inspection and moisture prevention regimen for homeowners. FreeFromMold.org gives you the tools you need to determine places around your house in need of inspection for typical moisture intrusion problems and offers simple steps to fix these problems. Routine home maintenance can prevent most of the moisture damage found in houses today.
